BEST Workshop

A Message from Nanette:

Congratulations BEST Summer Workshop 2011 on a fun and fantastic performance!  As our group theme song “We’re All in This Together” says: we’re all stars, and we see that.  Everyone worked hard and began the exciting journey in the world of music, dance and acting – the world of Pure Imagination.  Thanks to Jen, Tori, Kevin, Jill, Eric and John Middleton-Cox for their support for this group of budding young artists.  It has been a pleasure!

B.E.S.T Week 2

Week 2 has begun.  The WORKSHOP is getting ready for a final performance this Friday at 1:00.  All are welcome.

Below is a clip, a picture, and a message from the Director.

It was a fun end to week 1 for the BEST 2011 Workshop Ensemble with Water Day!  Thursday and Friday included voice lessons (Eric accompanying on piano for their scenes from Annie and Alice in Wonderland), a dance session with Jill and improvisation exercises.  Monday was all about the stage and voice projection.  Students worked on walking on stage, saying their name, character name and a line from their scripts – voice projection and confidence!  The busy day ended with work on mime, and physical acting skills.Thank you!NP

WILLIE WONKA, Jr. is making great progress.  All the hard work is paying off.
Tickets are selling well, over 400 sold.

B.E.S.T. WORKSHOP updates

Here is a report from the BEST Workshop director, Nanette Perrotte:

The BEST Workshop ensemble has taken off in leaps and bounds! On Day 1, one of the highlights was sharing a special object. The group first had to guess why the object was special, then the student got to tell the real story! The “Waka Waka” dance (Shakira) is also a hit as is Jen & Tori’s Cotton Eyed Joe.

We also did a first read through of the two scenes they will be performing from Annie & Alice in Wonderland on July 15. Our action packed Day 2 started with an 8 minute yoga sequence (Ravi Shankar sitar music to make it extra groovy). Then we worked on vocal technique- posture, singing open vowels, not closing out a word with a “ee” sound at the end (for example “baby”) and breath support. The songs we worked on were: We’re All in this Together (High School Musical) and Maybe (Annie).

The middle part of Day 2 was learning a dance combination to go with We’re All in this Together. Jill Keeney, the assistant choreographer from Willy Wonka put the group through their steps. They danced and sang for a full hour!

Finally, The Workshop Ensemble put together a mock commercial and performed it in front of the entire Willy Wonka ensemble. “Super Sham”- a shampoo that makes curly hair straight and straight hair curly…but does this fabulous shampoo really work? You will have to wait and see the commercial for yourself on July 15! The students in The Workshop ensemble were very professional and poised – they truly work as a supportive team.
